Missing hammers, nails that move seven feet when workers look away, toolboxes that fall off a shelf, it's all been reported while working on the dredge. Then there is the issue of strange markings that do not resemble normal damage due to weathering. Each winter five vertically aligned claw marks appear inside the North end of the dredge. Since public access is not allowed during the winter months due to danger of the heavy ice and snow that rests on the roof of the machine, no one can identify what is causing the mysterious marks.
Dredge #4 was moved twice in its lifetime, once from Pedro Creek to Chicken Creek and then from Chicken Creek to the town of Chicken. Since the final move to town in 1998, the moving tools and claw marks were infrequent, moving the dredge has caused increased activity and heightened nerves. Pedro Dredge Information |
